Here's an excellent box modeling tutorial in 3DSmax in 20 parts.
Nearly 8 hours ... Free ...

Thanks to Pierre because we can follow the tutorial along with Albatross3D
All the modeling tools necessary are implemented in Albatross !!!

The author sampad01does a great job from concept sketch ( A cartoony man with Hobbit's feet !) to hair modeling.
You can screenshot the concept art with VLC media player to follow along.
The result model is interesting because of its topology :
- 100 % quads
- consistent spacing between faces
- Controlled poles
- and proper edge loops.

The modeling tools used (in Albatross of course !) are :
- reference image in background
- cube primitive
- rectangle selection (vertices)
- extrude face
- mirror tool
- ring edge selection + cut and join + slide edge
- Move vertices
- move and scale components : edges end faces
- knife tool
- hide faces
- move vertices along symmetry plane
- merge in mesh tools.

I hope you'll enjoy the tutorial ... Wink
